Universal Credit
Universal Credit is a pivotal part of the UK's welfare reform, designed to streamline and simplify the benefits system. It consolidates six types of benefits into a single monthly payment, aiming to support individuals who are on a low income or out of work due to various reasons, including health conditions and disabilities.
What is Universal Credit?
Universal Credit replaces the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Housing Benefit
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
This integration into one payment makes the system easier to manage for recipients, providing a more straightforward approach to welfare support.
